The internet is not the lottery where you buy a ticket and hit the jackpot. You have to wait 6-8 weeks to get your big money from the lottery. Most people don’t wait 6-8 weeks to succeed in their business. The internet brings instant gratification. Most newbies expect that instant gratification in their business on the first day, first week, or first month. Someone promised them riches beyond measure with little work. WRONG!

Instant gratification is the worst thinking that an online entrepreneur can have. This explains why so many people fail within the first few months of their business. Unless you have built a list, reputation, or following of buyers. You will have to grind it out. All businesses start that way. That’s why business plans, systems, and mentors are available to help you succeed. Watch this video and see if you can point out the business owner’s mistake.

7.5 Reality Checks

1. Push Button Magic Pills: Sadly people are promised that all they have to do is put up their website, blog, video, or affiliate link and plug it into the system. Or they are promised a brilliant traffic source that cost no money and it’s just plug and play. Every business has a learning curve and online businesses are not the exception. There are no “Magic Pills” to save you.

You are setting yourself up for an epic fail if you don’t take the time to learn your business. You want the secret formula…

Consistent Daily Action + Persistence + Time + Education = Prosperity.

2. Schedule: What is your daily method of operation? You need to have a schedule. It needs to be consistent and focused on marketing, working in your business, and working on your business. Work at your own pace. Choose a system that will help you perform daily. Here is a tip: cleaning your desk, throwing away paperwork, and deleting emails is not an income-producing activity.

Is Amazon FBA for You?

Income-producing activities will help you beat the instant gratification syndrome. Can you build an income on 3-5 hours a day? Yes, you can because I am doing it. Depending on your business, niche, and company you can learn how to leverage your time and money. Remember you must do income-producing activities every day.

Work is Your Friend

3. Successful people don’t work hard every day: Yes they do. They just use the leverage of time, people, and systems. Somebody is doing the work. You are not there yet so don’t take shortcuts. You have to go through the grind before you can shine.

Athletes have to go through mini camps, spring training, summer camp, and preseason before they can even play in the game. Entertainers have to go through rehearsals before they perform. You have to go through the grind. Successful people don’t rely on instant gratification. They put in the work. Your business will look like a job. Work it like a job until you can use leverage.

4. Major Definite Purpose: How much money do you make? Yes, money! Cash money! Most people don’t have a clue and they just start a business with no sense of direction. Get clear on your outcome. You might not need a full business plan but you need to write your goals and your action plan. Remove all thoughts on instant gratification. Know what you want from your business and go after it.

Simple Does Not = Easy

5. It’s simple, not easy: Following a system is simple. But not easy. Losing weight is simple and you only need 5 words… eat less and exercise more. The system is simple and I know from experience it is not easy. It takes work to lose weight.

It takes work to be successful in business. That has been the theme of this article. Success takes action. It takes discipline to stick with a system that takes time to learn, implement, and then master. You have to master the fundamentals of your business and don’t get bored with the fundamentals. You engage in the fundamentals every day.

Instant gratification

6. S.O.S.: Avoid S.O.S. (Shiny Object Syndrome). There are always new traffic sources, a new safe list, and a new flavor of the month designed to get you traffic. Here is a hint. If someone tells you that all you have to do is put in your link and sales will come in it’s a lie. Most of these programs make money off you selling their system and not generating traffic for your business.

You don’t need any distractions. Don’t join every program that promises easy solutions to your traffic problems. Only choose programs that will help grow your primary business.

The Final Push

7. Traffic: Yes you need traffic. You have to drive traffic to your sites or you will not get paid. You need the traffic to grow your lists. This is where most newbies lose their money with their business. They go for instant gratification with unproven traffic sources and in 90 days they have burned through their funds.

This is the harshest reality check that online entrepreneurs face. This is why people quit. They don’t know how to generate traffic. You have to educate yourself on how to market. Instant gratification robs you of this education.

7.5 Delayed Gratification: This is something that is not taught in our culture. We want what we want and we want it now. I don’t know how long it will take you to be successful. I don’t know if you will work every day. Will you do whatever it takes to reach your goals? How many sacrifices will you make? Are you willing to stay the course? There is a price to pay in your business and do you have the guts to write that check?

Successful people learn delayed gratification. They persist until something happens and work on the fundamentals. Don’t let instant gratification kill your business.
