Focus on one thing at a time. Avoid all distractions. Multitasking can be very dangerous. Texting and driving is just one example. Dividing your attention during important events is downright suicidal. Pilots must pay attention to detail, soldiers have to keep their focus on the mission at hand. Your children are in a recital and you are on the phone? Get it!

Have you ever been out with your family when suddenly you get a phone call? Or maybe you are trying to work on some marketing or money-making activities and get distracted with email, skype, Facebook, etc.?

Well, I know I have and I want to encourage you to live in the NOW! Stop all the distractions and focus on what you are doing… It will not only make your family more happy but it will also make your Bank account more happy!

Living in the Now Lessons for Business

When I am out on a date or with a client I always turn my phone off. Why, because the most important person in my life at that moment is the person that I am with. Think about it… how do you feel when you are conversing and the person answers the phone? Downright rude huh!

When I meet with my real estate clients, I do not have my phone on. Looking busy and important is the last thing on my mind. I want my clients to know that now it’s their time. I am listening and we are trying to find the best home for you or come up with the best-selling strategy for your house. No distractions period!

I don’t take incoming calls, I don’t allow people to come in the conference room. My clients need to know that their business is important. This is the attention to detail I will have throughout the who transaction. You should do the same no matter what business you are in.

Living in the now also applies to every facet of your business. Don’t let the distractions of email, Facebook, YouTube, TV, and other things get in the way of growing your business. You must work “ON” your business and “In” your business. Focus on Income Producing Activities. It’s OK to have some music or audio training in the background. But close those browsers and get your marketing done.

Living in the now and focusing on one thing until completion. Write your blog post and finish it. Send out those direct mail pieces and finish it. Make those follow-up phone calls and finish it. If you are planning on doing some reading or education, focus on that one thing and give your full attention. Learn the concepts and implement them immediately. You can’t do that if you are doing three or four things at a time.

Haven’t you noticed how overwhelmed you feel when you are doing too many things at once? You feel the stress and frustration setting in. Then worse sometimes you go through the day not finishing anything. When you have 4 to 5 browsers open what are you really accomplishing? Switching back a fourth trying to save time? Why are you trying to meet that deadline when your co-worker is in your office wasting time?

Living in the Now and Family

Living in the now also applies to your family and friends. Even in this social media age we still have to be present physically and mentally. Do you take phone calls during your kid’s game? Do you text while your partner is trying to have a conversation with you? Are you actually working on friends and family night out? Really, put down that tablet!

Make some eye contact with your spouse, listen to your children, and laugh with your friends without any distractions. Oh please turn that darn cell phone off at the movies. Do me a favor. The next time someone is speaking with you, look them in the eye, smile, and listen. They will appreciate it. Respond! Engage!

Show them that they are important to you. More important than work, stock prices, new listings, and the latest sports score. Make living in the now a commitment.
